Had my usual Monday off.........

.....and the weather cooperated. It was beautiful out there about 65 and sunny for the morning, it started clouding up in the afternoon.
We had to drive out to the car dealership to pick up some touch up paint. There were some things they didn't do to the car when we bought it so we had to leave it for a few hours. Wade came and picked us up. He's in town to finish packing and goes to settlement sometime next week.
When we got back to the Kentlands we walked down to the dentist to ask a question about my insurance.
Then I had to walk over to RED and complain about my hair. The purple washed out. Here it is one week after spending all that money and I have blond highlights. I never would have had blond highlights done, makes me look like a white girl. I'm supposed to go see Tom on Friday to see if he could fix it.
We walked over to Whole Foods. I got to say Hi to Yummy Dairy Guy.
Driving home from the dealership we stumbled into a little traffic. I sure don't miss that. I'm so very happy that I live within walking distance of my job.
I have a date on Friday...imagine that :) So I hope Tom can fix my hair.

Two Hundred and Something

Wow over 200 posts. How'd I do that? This one is 202.

Turkey day

Went off here without a hitch.

Wade and Mom in the kitchen getting ready to serve

Here is my contribution. I made the corn pudding. This year I used the Roasted Corn from Trader Joe's

Since Wade and John are moving, they gave us this table. Good thing, the other one only sat 2.

Here is Gary relaxing before the main event.

One shot of the destroyed kitchen after all the gobbling.

Afterwards Mom and Gary went out to check out the new car. Wade and John were looking for stuff on the net.

I ate way too much.

I had to watch a little bit of Dallas Football.

I was hoping to watch the Divinci Code but John and Wade had to make an appearance somewhere else.

My Brother Gary freezes fish very strangely. He cleans the fish then puts it whole in a large ziplock and fills it with water. He also cuts off the fins. I like the fins so I'm crushed. But thankful for the Blues and Rocks anyway.

John got my CD walkman thingy to work.

Sioux was in heaven..she had lots of extra bodies around to throw the lizzy.

Dancing with Eric Roberts

On Tuesday night I went down to the Zodiac after work and actually participated in the dance lessons.
It was still the Hustle and the ChaCha.
We had to keep switching partners. So here was the lineup.

An Eric Roberts look-a-like. He was very encouraging and fun and he didn't have sweaty hands.
a Older gentleman who came off as very pompous. He made me feel like I was wasting his time by learning.
A Gilligan kinda guy. He was also very encouraging and didn't even get upset when I stepped on his foot. I was supposed to use the other right foot first.
A guy about my age. I don't have anyone to compare him too but he was nice. He did have sweaty hands.

Our dance teachers were great. I did prefer Debbie's teaching to the other guy. I think he just moved along too fast but, I stepped into a class that had beginner lessons 2 Tuesdays ago.

I only had 4 Margaritas so I was reasonably sober. You have to watch out for the 5th and I am done in on the 6th.

After the lessons were done I sat and talked to Eric Roberts. Later, Debbie came over to scoop us up to do a 2 step. That I can do...I dated a Texan once.

One year and Purple Hair

I have been In Maryland for 1 year today. This is what I looked like last year.

This is what I looked like today.

The purple hair is hard to capture on film. Its very subtle and the sun isn't shining today. But I bet you thought it was gonna look like this.

Mom tried to take a pic of me driving but the flash washed me out. I had to play with it anyway.

We have 100 miles on our car now. :)

We found a Filipino Market today thanks to Fe's directions and purchased some longanisa and Ube Jam.

Then we finished shopping for Thanksgiving.

You are The Empress
Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.
The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents, beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.
The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

Thanksgiving Horoscope for Aquarius

You're the sign most likely to do your own wacky thing for Thanksgiving - like skydiving in a Turkey costume.

Your signature dish: Tofurky (tofu "turkey")

Your signature dessert: A cocktail

This holiday: Give in to all your freaky ideas. Buck tradition!

Seven things I didn't know Last Sunday

My new jeans make it look like I have a caboose.

The Nissan Versa can't get out of its own way.

To Barred Owls, female joggers with ponytails look like squirrels till they swoop down.

I learned how to say Hello and Beef in Cherokee. Hello is Sheeyoh (cheo) and Beef is Wahgahhahweeyah and it sounds like walk-a-away-a. It brings to my mind, cow butt walking away.

After almost a year I finally read the "Other Man's Opinion" and learned how to charge the battery on my camera.

The Tagalog word for the purple yam is Ube (sounds like oobey). That is my new nickname given to me by Fe, since I dyed my hair purple.

I learned how to put the back seats down on my new car without resorting to the "Other Man's opinion"

We have a small delay for

a day of Beauty. Seven things I didn't know last Sunday will resume when I get back from my hair appointment.
I'm getting GRAPEL highlights in my hair and a decent cut. It will probably cost me a small fortune but I'm worth it.
The truth is I have been going cheap because I have been paying for the surgery. (And the haircuts have been what I paid for) Now that I'm close to getting that paid off I'm gonna get a good cut.

So your regularly scheduled activities will resume in a few hours.

I was so excited...

Tuesday I went out drinking.
One of my patients told me she was going to be teaching dance classes on Tuesday nights at the Zodiac (she told me this last summer) and I should come down. Going down there by myself isn't something I would normally do but after winning the Bestest Blog on Tuesday, my confidence was extremely high. When I got there I found out that night they were teaching the Hustle and the ChaCha. I lived through the Hustle once. Also being the Tuesday before payday I had to weigh an important fact into my decision. I had enough money for tequila or dance lessons but not both.

I drank and watched.

I drank a lot.

I did meet a man. He walked my drunk ass home.

So Wednesday was all about the hangover.

So Wednesday night, I had a dream that my new acquaintance sent me flowers at work. It was a nice dream. So on Thursday morning I'm counting the cash and a flower van pulls up in front of the store. My jaw must have dropped open but alas he was taking the flowers to the hair studio next door. Oh well.

Ok so we bought a car yesterday...

So you know what we did today? Yes that's right, we Walked to the Library. We decided even tho we have a car we are not going to fall into bad habits. And we need the exercise. Besides when your in a car you might miss interesting things like this.

Turkey Buzzards making themselves bigger because they think we are going to run across the street and steal their carrion.

Here we have some great shots of the lake. The water was so calm it was like a mirror.

No self respecting Native would have a car without feathers hanging from the rear-view, even if it isn't a rez rocket we have to keep tradition.

Of course we had to take the dogs for a walk

Obligatory shot of Mom behind the wheel.

I can't believe it

Mimi from Dating profile of the Day wrote a really nice review of my blog and gave me Bestest Blog of the Day: 11/14/2006
Click on the link and check it out. And while your there use the Random Blog button. Its really better than the next blog button. These blogs are all in English and I have found some great ones using this method.
I never thought I'd even be nominated for this.
I was really surprised anyone was reading my blog at all for that matter.
I'm just so flabbergasted I really don't know what to say.
I would like to thank my family for being so dysfunctional and giving me something to write about everyday :)

You Are From Mars

You're energetic, althletic, and totally hyperactive.

You love playing sports and being in the middle of all of the action.

You're independent, corageous, and brave. Unafraid to do things your way.

Mars can be reckless, quick tempered, and a little too spontaneous.

So think before you act - and resist your natural urges to dominate others.

Meet my sleep theif

Last week Mom stayed at John's house to watch his dogs and left me Cheyenne to care for. Mom was only gone 3 nights but Cheyenne decided to act the monkey all 3 nights.
We thought Mom was having trouble sleeping because of menopause but it turns out it was Cheyenne all along. Almost every hour for those 3 nights he would get up to drink water or use the litter box or lick his butt. Then he would come back to bed and decide he wants to sleep where Sioux is sleeping so now I'm awake and breaking up a dog fight.
With me just getting over the flu and the insomniac dog I didn't get much sleep. So that's why not many posts last week.
But here's an oddity, My commissions were higher last week than they have been in a long time..go figure.

Seven things I didn't know Last Sunday

1. Mom is not an insomniac, her dog is.

2.The Yaris looks like a toy car on lawnmower wheels. It has been eliminated.

3. When Mom got her mothers ashes in the mail, she took them grocery shopping. She put the box marked Human Remains in the seat of the buggy and talked to it while shopping.

4. My hair grows faster when I run a fever.

5. Fe fed me something from the Philippines that had purple yams in it. It tasted like a Moravian Love feast Bun. She told me the name but I have to ask her again. check back for the name.

6. I learned how to say good morning in Tagalog. I have it spelled out phonetically on on post-it-note at work so I can say it to the DHL guy.

7. Catfish tasted pretty good with a coating of cornmeal and whole wheat flour and fried in grapeseed oil. (I trying to eat healthy but my southern roots sometimes is at odds with that endeavor)

What Wade Wakes up to

Yesterday's Wordless Wednesday was a shot of Wade's new backdoor view. He took it with his camera phone in the early morning. In only 15 months my early morning back door view may be similar.

And now I'm going back to bed.

Monday, November 06, 2006

I have the day off but.....

I don't have an adventure to report, unless you consider the stomach flu an adventure. I'm not going to go into the gory details, but I have had a lot of time hanging out in front of the porcelain god, thinking.
I think after dealing with Graves disease since 2002 I shouldn't have any more sick days, ever. Most people only have to deal with it for about 9 months. I was married to an idiot who couldn't keep a job and couldn't keep health insurance.
It also didn't help that my thyroid was some kinda mutant that wouldn't die after being radiated twice.
Ok enough of that, I was also thinking I have been back in Maryland for one year on the 20th. So, I think I will never mention run away husband again after the 20th. He's not like my first husband, I didn't have any children to tie me to him till he dies of heart disease. After the 20th he won't exist to me, at all. So I'm going to try and get all the digs in while I can.
Tomorrow I am off again and I will have an adventure to report. Today all that is going on is my butt is sore and my back hurts...I'm going back to bed.

Oh, I have to apologize to President Clinton. He called to tell me to vote, and I hung up on him.

Seven things I didn't know Last Sunday

1. Mom thinks Camilla Parker Bowels looks like a real life Bobble-Head.

2. Bob Barker was born on the Rosebud Indian Reservation. He's not Native, His Mom was a school teacher.

3. The Washington Post is giving us free weekday when we buy the weekends. They probably think we are paying attention to the elections but we just wanted peepee paper.

4. I've noticed that you hardly see people carrying around tires in the more affluent neighborhoods. In the less affluent neighborhoods you see it all the time.

5. You can buy bean chips at Trader Joe's. The chips are made from beans and are not that bad.

6. The best way to get to get the republicans off the phone is to tell them your voting democrat because the voices told you to.

7. CD-RW's will not play in older CD players.

Another Day off, Another adventure

We went by the Library to see the display Mom made for Native American Heritage Month.

Then we caught the bus out to Trader Joe's for some nuts and stuff. We missed the bus coming home so we had a little wait. It was a pretty day, but cold.

Someone lost their balloons.

We took that stuff home and then went for a late lunch or early dinner. dunch? linner?
Anyway we went to Ledo's.
I hadn't been back to Ledo's since returning to MD. Even the Oprah show will tell you it's the best pizza.
I also had a nagging question answered. When I went to live in Ohio, the people there were surprised to hear that I have had Italian Wedding Soup before. I couldn't remember where I had it, but I knew I have eaten it before. Ledo's has it on the menu. Now Campbell's sells it in a can, but back then not many people had heard of it outside of Italian communities.

Coming home it was cold...very cold.

A better picture

I noticed the poster above my bed is kinda hard to see so I found a better pic from the Frank Howell Studio website. I originally purchased the poster from them.
Its named Fruit From the Light

BLOG CHALLENGE

On gnightgirl's site is a challenge

MY BLOG CHALLENGE FOR YOU

Would you all be willing to slow down for just one second, and find one or two material items in your house that bring you joy/memories/sentiment?

Will you photograph them and put them on your blog, or write about them, if you don't have a camera?

If you don't have a blog, send me a photo, and I'll post it, with your blessing.

Those that play, let me know, and I will link to you here.

It's not that I want to place excess value on material items. It's just nice to slow down and acknowledge those things that put a smile on our face. We need not to rush by them.

Spread the word: Game On.

here are mine:

My Frank Howell poster over my bed. I love his work and especially like the use of color in this one.

In my family when a girl turns 16 she gets a ceder chest. It started as a hope chest, but there was no hope for me. This chest has been lugged around 3 different states.
Puppies and children have chewed and scratched it, but it just makes it more "mine"

My earring screens. Had to make these to hold all my earrings. I know my dressing table is a mess.

My doctor was given this clock by a drug rep and I fell in love with it so he gave it to me. I just think its the cutest thing.

When I was 6 I bought this plant at Woolworths for Mothers Day for $1.00. I kept it in my closet until mothers day practically killing it. When we lived in NC it was huge but we had to leave it there (too big for the Lumina) but we took this cutting off of it and started a new one.

My bike. The first vehicle I have purchased since the Unfortunate Marriage or Mirage.
